27 December 2010

So this week has been pretty Slow, because of Christmas holidays and all! Christmas is pretty slow time of year for missionary work even though Christmas day was the highest number of baptisms the mission had seen! in quite some time! like 30 or so! None from us though! bummer! hopefully soon! :) we get teased about it all the time that we aren't working hard enough or that we don't do missionary work right and all we do is tell them well get busy if you can do so much better then you do it! And then they kinda curl up and don't say anything! so this week has been a little slow, we had a real fun week though! we in preparation for the holiday we tried to get to all of our home teaching families and share a message, but most of the were either out of town or want nothing to do with missionaries or the church! Elder Bohman and I went caroling this week with the district another set of elders and one set of sister! some body had to keep us on the right note! cause we totally slaughtered a few songs! :S we went to the Hubble's for Christmas eve dinner and got to hang out a little there and talk, but Christmas day as you can tell dad we went to Jack in the Box, the only restaurant open in the whole town that was cheap enough.
But yesterday we went to contact a referral near our home, but found out that the referral was 3 deaf people from nepal, they spoke nepali and the 3 deaf spoke nepal sign language NSL, boy is this going to be a challenge! We tried to work with the parents of the deaf people and they were confused beyond belief! way crazy! :) I love it here! everything about it! The radio today said it could possibly snow this week! :) I guess we will see! I truly doubt it cause it is 69 outside now and everyday keeps getting warmer! :S it's gonna be a hot summer! crazy!

It was great to hear from all of you this weekend!! love you all!

21 December 2010

Wow this week has been crazy!!! Lots of new changes, things happening in the mission! we had transfers today! Crazy! I can't believe it! The time here is slipping by so fast and the work even though it is slow is progressing! This week we had so many miracle! not many lessons taught, or numbers, but a lot happened. Taking Elder Kane's place, well really isn't possible!! Those are some really big shoes to fill, but it is working out quite well! :) Elder Bohman is way awesome! we have had a lot of fun the last well 4 days wow it hasn't been that many already right? crazy! anyway! so on Saturday Elder Bohman and I were going to contact a referral we were given on Craycroft and well basically 29th street. We arrived at our destination and parked. We got out of the car and I looked up! there were 4 deaf people staring at us looking us straight in the eyes. I walked over to them and initiated conversation with them. Much to my surprise they knew NO American Sign Language!!!! They knew their name and well they struggled to fingerspell them to me! Their language skills were limited to the Max!! I then looked over to my companion who all in himself has very limited language skills! He can express he just can't recipt what is being said, and he said I don't know what they said! They can't read they can't write and they can't communicate with us! I thought to myself and then prayed for help! I then looked at my companion and then back at the four deaf people in front of me and I began to act out the first lesson : The restoration of the gospel which includes: God and Jesus Christ love us, Families Love us, Gospel brought to pass in every dispensation, Jesus Christ life and ministry, apostasy, Joseph Smith, and Prayer. I after being done teaching them looked at them once again this time they had a glow in them, they were smiling and well their countenance changed! after investigating a little more we found out they weren't from here! and well nowhere near here in fact they came from like Korea some place in ASIA! nuts! I couldn't believe it!
This work is amazing, and soooooo much fun!!!
well as for the news you were probably looking for the Christmas Call.............. Well I have news for you.................. we will be calling about well hmmmmm........ between like 11:30 a.m.----about 1:00 p.m. that is the soonest we are able to call!!!! We are limited to about one hour to time! Between 1 hour and 1 hour 15 min anything over that we will get rebuked for! ha ha!

I will also be using Sorenson Video interpreter to be able to understand what is up! just like last year with elder kane interpreting, I will use an interpreter on the screen, it will be a delayed response a little maybe a second or 2 also the woman might answer and explain before I am connected, but don't worry it will be my voice!
Life here in Arizona couldn't be better than it is now! I hope all is well with you talk to you on Saturday!!

Love you,

13 Dec 2010

This week has been awesome alot of cool contacts many new people met and taught no just a hope for them to accept the gospel!
This week we contacted a man named Larry. He has had a real tough life and has been struggling real bad! He has had everything drugs, alcohol, tobacco, the whole nine yards. We gave him our number and committed him to throw out his tobacco and he was a little shaky about the cigarettes, but we gave him a book of mormon and the lord promised him if he threw them both away they would be not be a bother to him anymore! he later that night called us andtold us that he flushed his tobacco, but still yet to throw the cigarettes away. he said he would read the book of mormon it was great!

we also met another man outside a deaf members house who has been through the wringer. he has many of the same problems as larry, but even worse. He loves to party and Loves to drink, but he knows it is getting him no where. he wants to stop but doesn't know where to start. we gave him a book of mormon and told him to keep it with him everywhere he went, because other than a set of clothes and the book of mormon and a cd he has nothing. his family has disowned him and left him alone. he transfers from friends house to friends house trying to have a place to sleep. what a rough life he has!! we then shared the footprints in the sand the poem with him and we all started to cry and got a little choked up! he wants to change and i truely hope he will accept it! since none of there are deaf we aren't allowed to teach them except in the initial contact. What a great opportunity to be an instrument in the hand of the lord!!
He is awesome! are we ready!

well For the change this week i'm not really looking forward to it at all! i'm gonna miss that kid way too much but i'm ready and looking forward to being with elder bohman! he is awesome! and the next 6 weeks are gonna be a blast!! by the way this next week will be transfer week and well email will be on tuesday!
Next weeks call can be well really almost anytime i'll have to consult my companion when he is going to call to Florida then I'll tell you next week! let me know when will be the best time for you!!

Thanks!
Love you all!!!

8 December 2010

This week as you can see is kinda crazy!!!! and well I write today from the Gila Valley. We just finished up with a temple session, and are getting ready to head back but thought it would be good to stop real quick for an Email. This week has been crazy we haven't really been able to teach this week, lots of finding, many of our investigators have dropped, one is in jail and well that's how it has been the last week!
Elder kane and I are having a blast and are looking forward to Zone Conference tomorrow! Elder Kane has well 10 days left, and is looking forward to going home. The deaf work will then be turned over to me for the remainder of the time possibly until i go home!! I Recieved a package in the mail from M&D and Family along with one from the Peterson's. Thanks for all you do! Hope you are staying warm and all is well!!

love you all!!!

29 November 2010

Hello Family,

Hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving even if it is a little snowy! :) little? yeah right!!! ha well if it is any consolation there is no Snow here at all and well it is a bit warmer I believe!! haha! :) It is 45 now here and Getting warmer! :) it was 41 this morning when we woke up. THanksgiving day was beautiful! 65-70 degrees!! We went to President Warrens House for thanksgiving Lunch and then off to the Hubbles for Thanksgiving dinner!!! President warren Is the Branch President of the Deaf Branch here. we had lot fun! and well really this week there isn't much new just the same ole thing! I went on exchange in the Hearing area this week ooh boy I don't miss that at all!!
We get to do a christmas song next week for zone conference elder kane and i and we sure and heck ain't singing!! better bring your ear plugs!!!! :) haha no we will sign and hope they will understand! :) Well I'm afraid it is well getting started with the winter season now! and well it's down right cold! :..( But the most important part to remember is the true meaning of Christmas found in the 1st and 2nd chapters of Luke. take the time to look it over it will help you to remeber the true meaning and the reason for the season. after doing so read Mosiah 14 and Alma Chapter 7. Though we are week we can be made strong only in and through Christ, He is the way the truth and the light!! Search to find the light, the true meaning of the season. I'm all to afraid that this world is worried about the time for gifts and the season of giving and focusing too much on the wisemen's role in the story that they don't focus on the Babe in the manger. Take the time to really think of the season and it's meaning!! CHrist was born of mary for if it weren't so we couldn't be redeemed, and there would be no reason in life. God lives! Jesus is the Christ!!

Love you all!!

22 November 2010

Hey,

It has been a pretty good week this week! pretty cool!! 1 New investigator. the man from Nogales moved here to Tucson. We have a baptism Scheduled for him for the 23rd of December, it will take great faith to get him ready for that point. He is super busy and works on Sunday. Our next baptism is scheduled for December 11th, 2010. Veronica is her name she struggles with comprehension and the drive, I thinks she is more in it for the social than the gospel itself.
We are striving for her to understand and praying for what to do to help her, it is challenge. also the guy who threw out his beer is now drinking again, it is so difficult to see it happen that way, but we are working to help him overcome it! well
Happy Thanksgiving! hope you have an awesome one!! we for sure will!!! :)
Also christmas, I would like copy of Claus journal, I still not get that from longgggggg ago!

thanks love you

This week was great!!! One new Investigator and well we had drop a few too. they weren't progressing and we had to move on. it is sad to see them go and to see them and their desire no more!
This week we found one new investigator, Veronica Williams, a Black deaf lady who is really interested in learning about the church!! She is so excited about being baptized on Dec 11 she asks us about it every time we see her and she prays about it all the time! It got super cold this week!! Got down in the 50's this week and I almost FROZE!!!!!!!! yeah that is right! cold hands and cold feet!! woah it's Winter already!!! ooh no! Time here is flying by sooooo fast it feels like I just wrote you last week! crazy!
We also had a fireside with Joseph Smith's Great Great Granddaughter last night! was way cool! Learned lot of him and why none of his family is a member of the church! now that has changed!!
Well there isn't much left from this week is was soo fast! Love you much!!! thanks for all you do!

ATTN: All Packages for christmas must arrive at the mission office NO later than December 1st, 2010, or they will not be distributed in time for Christmas!!!!

Also this week we had a great experience! on of our LEss active memeber has been on beer for the last I don't know how long and well he took the long walk to the garbage can this week! to throw the last of his beer in the trash it was such a great experience. anyway back to the Family, They are truly humble and are ready for the gospel. the mother has been looking for a church now for a long time and hasn't found the right one yet!! That's right the word yet is in that sentence!!! we also had a third companion this week! he was our zone leader, but his companion got assigned to a different assignment, Assistant to the President. ha so he was with us for the last few days! 1 November 2010

There isn't much to write about! just same old same old this week! it's been a crazy week! I did go to an English area this week while on exchanges it was way different and really tough!! I like the deaf area alot better Alot more is required in the deaf area than the english area!! anyway!! we are doing great here!! the weather is finally cooling off and it is getting bearable now! it was in the mid to upper 70's and in to the 80's this week hopefully next week is cooler!! The work is slow right now, but we do have 1 investigator who is in town and the other is out of town! Ed Mace is the one in town, the is a Baptist and is really having a hard time letting go of his church! he knows the church is true, but doesn't want to act on it! really sad I must say!!! We had a halloween party on my birthday day at the church and interpreted at a family history fair in the morning!! For halloween we went to church of course then a few appointments dinner and back in by 6 p.m. for weekly planning!! it was changed out from friday cause of halloween!! well I think that's pretty much all!!! Thanks for the gifts!! Hope all is well! with you!!!

25 October 2010

Hey mom,

This week has been great! lots of new things are happening and well yeah! We found one new investigator this week his name is Ed. That now makes 2! :) yeah! I have been doing well!! the work is great here!! This week I have been studying alot about the atonement of Jesus christ and the role it plays in our life and also about authority and how to help understand that the authority his pastor has is not from God, but from a paper and a college. I am truly greatful for the opportunity to serve the Lord at this time here in Cold Arizona! It is about 65-75 degrees now and it bites! ha probably not as cold as it is there! Hope you are enjoying the rain, better get our your waders! :) your gonna need them it looks like! No gas for you! bummer! Thanks for all the Birthday wishes! I did recieve a card from your mom, and the JC penny stuff thanks so much! As the Fall here begins I want to share my love and gratitude for our savior and the love in which he gives the peace he affords and as we follow what he teaches we shall be truly happy. I would not rather be anywhere than here at this time serving the Lord and his Lost sheep. As you strive to do so the love you have for the savior yourself and the rest of the family will grow. don't be afraid to share the gospel. If I can overcome my fears so can you pray for help and you shall recieve it! You probably can't imagine me going up to a man or woman on the street and starting a conversation well guess what I can! Some days are easier than most, but if you don't ask they can't say yes. I found out my new companion this last week he comes the first week in February, Elder Bradley, and supposedly he is completely deaf! ooh what fun! :) can't wait! it will be a super challenge for me and for the mission as a whole, but it will be truly worth it!:)
Well gotta run thanks for all you do
Love,

18 October 2010

This week as been Crazy!! feels like we drove around a lot and didn't really accomplish much, but a lot came from it! We have one new investigator, His name is Jay Busby, we met him at the grocery store about 4-5 months ago before i went home, We had forgotten about him and we received a referral for him from some other missionaries, He came to the church and well it is all history from there! he doesn't have a baptismal date yet. he is very methodical! We called him this morning and set up an appointment with him, he wanted to compare the teachings of Joseph Smith and Jesus Christ! ooh boy is it our lucky day! he said he as yet to find a church with it all in the box! :) yee haw! :) cant wait!! keep searching for missionary opportunities and don't let satan get in the way of you accomplishing that! :) You can do it! I'll be waiting to hear from you!! As you can see the time is very short today, and it's been super hectic! gotta run! Love you all! :) Thanks for the update! Tell everyone hello! Love you

11 October 2010

Hey,

Another week and well for the answer to your questions!
Mom:
Normal schedule is as follows and well it's also in preach my gospel in the 1st chapter
6:15 wake/ workout/ pray individual and companion
7:15 Sacred grove experience ( reflection time as if in sacred grove) preparation for prayer and personal study
8:30 Breakfast
9:00 companion study
10:00 Languge study
11:00 Lunch
12:00 out for work
5:00-6:00 Dinner
9:00 Planning and
10:30 light out
in between 12 and 9 we have many different finding opportunities, tracting ( knocking doors), meeting people, teaching meeting with less active and ward members ect.

Recently we saw a huge miracle and are praying hard the it will continue to lead to success for The Lord in this area.
We were in an area far away from our Apt so we dont go down there too often however when we were there on our way to visit another person Elder Karlson was prompted to go and visit a person from the Branch. Age 17 who hasn't been to church in about 5 years i think. The youth leader has tried and tried and tried to contact him. No luck. He has moved here and there or whatever reason. ANywho he asked me if he lived Close. I said Yes he does actually Thats not bad idea. We went by and he was home! (i have met him once before in the VERY beginning of my mission. He wasn't interested in doing anything or coming back to church) Anywho we talked asked how he was doing and literallly about a minute into the conversation he asked us (yes HE asked US) about church. How it was going. We said GREAT! and in efforts to stay on that topic but turn the tables to HIM. i searched for what to ask. I asked "Do you miss church?" I feel i already knew that answer and was searching for something else. However nothing came so i asked. ANd he said no. but went on to explain why he was baptized 7 years ago and why he left the church. (both reasons mostly just family His uncle converted. everyone else was still catholic) and then he went on to explain lately he has really wanting to learn more about God and he had questions about Him he has been wondering and striving to find answers too. We asked Him about the Book of Mormon if he has been reading it and if we could visit him to answer those questions. He did not know where HIs Book of Mormon was. His mom put it somewhere he just didnt know where. ANywho he then said i don't have much time my uncle is on his way to pick me up. But you might could come in for a few minutes. Let me ask when he will get here. He would arrive in 15 minutes but Ricky invited us in anyways. We went in and had a very great short talk with him. Asked him what he wanted to know about God explained our purpose and what we would be striving to accomplish. We are excited to meet with him. He didn't know his schedule but will let us know soon. We are praying Things will work out. This could lead to a lot of success for the Lord here and lead many of His deaf children back to Him. Ricky is a senior or junior at the local Deaf School. Many youth who haven't already been stuck in their ways or worn out by missionaries over the years. We hope and hope. ANd have faith in miracles. Whatever the Lord will. We are excited to see what happens. :)

It is great for to hear from you all this week I hope it seemed to answer you questions if have other let me know i can answer!
Love you! take care!

04 October 2010

Hey cripple haha!!! Arm, leg, you almost got the whole body covered!! :)
The weather here is super hot still it looks like rain today but we have yet to see it! :) it's about 100 still and getting warmer every day!! but it's gonna cool down way too soon!!!!!! I need a few more white short sleeve shirt 17.5 neck 33/34 sleeve, and a sweater vest it's gonna get down right cold soon!!!!! it gets cold here at night now down about 75 or so but yeah!

As for the ASL area here
the boundaries are
1 hour north of San Man well ( i know that is wrong spelling! Spanish word can't spell it) manuel maybe
to the border with Mexico to the south Nogales, Sierra Vista, Ect
east to Silver City and Deming New Mexico ad West just 1 hour west of Phoenix!

Elder Kane and I Cover it all! mostly on referrals, so we cover the length of Tucson almost everyday! we average about 50-100 miles everyday in driving. Here no 2 deaf people live close together as you can tell!!

We are never home but for studies in the morning and usually have either a dinner appointment, which is VERY VERY VERY RARE, 1 maybe 2 a week if we are lucky! ha ha but if we don't we normally will take something or go to eat! most often we have to just pick something up because we go west with the intent to return to the east for dinner and the evening but most often something comes up and we have to eat and drive at the same time. on the phone or texting, emailing, checking updates on the web to the next deaf activity for the organizations around here and off to the next appointment. i can't imagine if it gets much busier than this! the work is going great!

Well gotta run! Check out the new advertisements floating around Tucson lately! they are on http://mormon.org/people/find/ then click on the list feature they are awesome! :)

The mission is the best!! best thing I have ever done!!!! it's been super busy no investigators yet!! deaf people are very stubborn and are not willing to listen to our message it's really sad, but all good! Elder kane is a District leader so we get to exchange alot with other elders i'm not real fond of that it slows down the work but it's great!!:) makes me appreciate my companion more! :) I love it here. the heat the sore feet the pain in the back are nothing when we focus on the reason we are here!! :)

ooh a nice wild couple of ties would be great! more bright colors other than red! no dark colors. :) thanks :) A few food gift cards would be nice too :) thanks :)

20 September 2010

:) Great week this week! seems to get more busy than we truly can handle! lots of work is being done here and lots lots lots more to be done! we had the opportunity again this week to be trained and edified by yet another general authority Elder Paul Johnson of the 1st quorum of the 70. it was great to meet him and to be trained by him and his wife! most importantly this week we have been focusing on teaching people not lessons. the numbers really don't make a difference, it is the quality of the lessons, the sincerity of the message we share that matters most. that is the reason i write today it to encourage you to do just that, find a friend to share the message of the gospel with. seek and pray for that missionary experience and then act upon the prompting that you will recieve as you pray and seek. I promise as you do so you lives will be improved, your lives and the desire you have will change in helping those to come unto christ!! The greatest happiness we have here on this earth is the atonement of jesus christ and the opportunity to be together as a family forever, don't allow anything to get in the way of making it happen! there is nothing better to know of that surity. Love you all!

13 September 2010

This past week has been crazy!! :) lots of fun has been happening, finding running around and Exchanges... huh? yep that's right!! they sent me with a hearing elder to a deaf area lots of fun! now i had the opportunity to practice my interpreting skills crazy!!! haha! well we been super busy this week! we taught 20 lessons this week which is a new record for us for just starting out!! finding and all! :) So we went to this Less active deaf mans house who is wanting to go to the temple!! we have been preparing him for the temple. Imagine temple prep class for dummies ( you know those books well i could write one by now) how to explain the temple to people who can't hear and have no language skills! LDS temples for dummies! you got it! maybe i'll try that when i get home!! This week we were trying to get the Branch excited for missionary work and get referrals. we did the excitement part, but the referral part is a work in progress!!! haha! deaf are very open to talking but not to committing to anything! ANYTHING!
Ha we got our carpets cleaned this week ooh what a blessing in disguise. we found out that the carpet was originally a grey color not a black color that it appeared to be! ha well now you know the life of a missionaries apartment.
I got bawled out by a deaf lady this week! we were helping her doing some service and mowing her lawn and we weren't doing it right i guess. I wasn't holding the wimpy electric weed eater right, so she got all huffy and puffy, ha i told her she could fo it if she would like. ooh would that be fun to see a deaf lady who recently had back surgery using a walker and mowing the lawn. what a sight! ha so we quickly finished up and come to find out she is that way with everyone! ooh how it must suck to get old! No offense! haha well i gotta be running!! love you all!

This week was awesome! :) way fun!! :) we found a new investigator this week!!! She is super LOW LOW LOW Educated. she has what we call LLS or limited language skills! she knows how to spell her name and do a few other things so the lessons we teach are mostly well Acted out. i guess all those days in drama are finally paying off if you want to say it that way! :S Also this week we have a few other things going on the work is finally picking up and it is super cool! :) few referrals left to contact and a few other things this week! deaf people LOVE to set appointments in advance, meaning well like 2-4 weeks in advance! so good things will begin to happen soon! :) We have been packed full all day every day at nights for the last 3-4 days! it's awesome! :) we are really being blessed! This morning is was reading in Helaman 5 an amazing chapter suggest you read it! :) read it once for the story and what is happening then again for the principles taught! wow it's amazing! the work is great! all is well here the deaf branch is beginning to respond! :) we had 2 Less Active members back at church this week! :) all is well! 23 August 2010

This week has been super crazy!!! lots of new assignments and new things we are learning here now!! :) The deaf work here is super crazy and super busy!!!
The branch is super awesome! They are not yet fired up about sharing the gospel. The deaf culture is a bit different from that of the hearing culture as you know and the deaf respect everyone and their beliefs and cultures, so it is super hard to get any referrals from them!!!
We were assigned 8 new home teaching assignments this week and will continue with them and finding new investigators! with the deaf branch we are to do mostly less active work now and get the members back to church for the first few weeks then will switch over to the gospel sharing part!!! we are to get the Less active and inactive members back to church! many of which have unbaptised members of their family so that will help with the end result! :) we are looking to go to ASDB ( Arizona School for the Deaf and Blind) this week and begin to target the young students there!! all of the branch is dieing off and it getting to be very old! very sad, but we are searching! that's all we can do! deaf work is not your normal missionary work and is very hard to find them!!! we are looking to go to Nogales soon, we have a referral from missionaries down there just waiting for them to set up an appointment for us and we'll be off! :) (hey Red, Fran any friends we should visit while we are there???) ooh also to green valley! :) the work is going great!! I am having the time of my life!!!

This last weekend we had the opportunity to hear and meet Elders Christofferson, Rasband, Kearon ( misspelled from England), and Pickered. it was an amazing experience to go and to meet and betrained by them! the focus of the meeting was the Family and the Temple!! many things were very touching, and the spirit was amazing! :) 2 main things that caught my attention were 1 from President Crockett President of the Gila Valley Temple commented on a picture he had in his home of the temple with all the signatures of the Grandkids there with a small placque on the bottom of it said, " We will meet you there."
The other was from Elder Rasband, He was talking about failure in the home and what constitutes failure in the home!! he mentioned that:The only thing that constitutes failure in the home is when the Parents OR Grandparents give up on trying! don't do it! :) well hope all is well!!!!!!!!! Love you all!!

13 July 2010

WOW!! this week has been a total ZOO!!! yeah that is right!! this week has been crazy busy!!! I have a new companion, Elder Spencer Hill from Orem, Utah. ha ha! anyway we have been way crazy we found 3 new pretty strong investigators this week!! 1 that set her own baptismal date before we even got to asking! ha ha!! crazy! well the investigator we found this week, he name is Lillia Brossova, From Russia, way strong I must say. she love visitors and loves the missionaries!! ha ha anyway yesterday we were teaching her the Word of Wisdom, from with she drinks tea as to most Russians in social settings. We told her that she could no longer drink Tea. she turned to us and said really I must give it all up? I don't drink it real often and only for social purposes. we turned to her and said what is your biggest desire right now? she turned to us and said to follow Jesus Christ and be baptised. we said that Jesus doesn't want you to drink tea she said OK no more. we asked her if we could help her get rid of the tea, she said no I will give it to my neighbors. ( she had just bought like 8 boxes of Lipton tea) she said I'll give it away. after about 45 mins we got a phone call from her in her SA-WEEET accent that said I have contacted Walmart and will be taking it back. but you must understand Lillia can not move very well, she has a pinched siatic nerve, she can only go to church for one hour and will have to go home, she does special stretches so that she can stand up and have a lesson with us! she can't sit! but she can't wait for her baptism! it'll take 2 - 3 people to baptize her! awesome I must say! And we can't say it is too hard to do anything if she can't get outta bed but once a day to meet with us the missionaries! can't wait! the work is booming here and is so Crazy!!! the Asphalt sinks as you walk and it burns the bottom of your feet the soles get so hot, but that is what makes it SO much fun! Loving it here!! Have an awesome week!!!! talk at you later!! :)

Love you all!

1 June 2010

Hey ya'll,
Well as you can see it is not monday! yesterday everything was closed here for memorial day
so we couldn't email so here I am!
it's been a pretty crazy week this week! lots of time in the dr. office and the scanning room.
This week I had 3 different MRI's taken at the Tucson Orthopedic Institute where I have been
seen for the last month and a half. We will get the results on Thursday and find out what will
take place after that! I also have had X-RAYS TAken last week on wednesday
or so, so you know what kind of week it has been! trying to stay as busy as I can be in the
circumstance i am in. no matter how many hours I must stay at the apartment we are still
going head strong trying my best!
This last week has been real busy with the work and all! this week we had another investigator
get baptized. it was great to see someone make the necessary commitment and take the steps
to happiness! Life is crazy here in the hot weather, you're always welcome to take a little of it your
way anytime you'd like! 103 this week it was! CRAZY! ha well it's soon time to hit the road!
Hope all is well at home! keep doing what your doing and get rid of a book of mormon this week
someone needs it just find out who it is and give it to them! if you need one to give away just get
into contact with them missionaries, they have plenty in fact I think sometimes they have too many
The more hands it gets into the better the world will be!! DO IT! DO IT NOW! DO IT RIGHT!

Been a real crazy week this week!! lots of down time trying to get healed! but it soon shall pass! :) This week there were lots of events that happened Temple Youth Cultural Celebration, Temple dedication, ect, ect.
The last two days have been super busy!! On saturday we got word from President and Sister Walker that we were allowed to go to both the temple dedication and the Youth Cultural Celebration. They were both awesome. Yesterday we went to the temple dedication at the stake center, TWICE!! yeah that's right! It was a way awesome experience and a testimony booster for sure!!! All is well in AZ this week!! ooh by the way it cooled down today!! ha it's about 75 for the low today! :) yee haw finally!!!! well there's lots going on and gotta get running but want to quick share an experience first: yesterday we were out and about trying to contact a few referrals, one lady we visited had had missionaries before and was not interested at all! but we went to contact another refferral and they weren't home, but on the way back to the care Elder Kane and I both felt as if to contact this Native American family. pretty nice family! the mom and the daughter were there, not members but the father is and wanted to get the children back to church and eventually if they wanted baptised! well there are 7 in the family 6 of which are eligible for baptism! hopefully soon something will come of it! :) well gotta run!
Love you all,

3 May 2010

HEY YA'LL
Well it's been a pretty rough week this week! lots of pain from the car wreck! well as for how it happened
April 7th, 2010
My companion and I had just exchanged with the District leaders for the evening and the next day! I had to drive because the other passenger in the car had been red Flagged and unable to drive!
it was about 2 mins after we had exchanged I was getting ready to turn onto the freeway to go to the district leaders apartment. there was a car in front of me that had stopped to turn left I was stopped behind it right under a light pole. as i was waiting for the car in front of me to turn left I looked in my rear view mirror and to my suprise was a red Ford Focus coming through my back bumper at 30 mph.
It was pretty freaky! messed up the car pretty good, but all in all we are alive!
As for my companion! He's way awesome! and as you may have never thought he hates making decisions too! so the two of us are taking turns at it now!! he's been driving alot lately because I can't! I've been on some pretty heavy medications and can't drive, but I do have to say I probably could drive better than most of the people here in Tucson and I'm on pain killers! enough said about traffic! well I'm starting to feel better! I will be starting Physical therapy tomorrow for the next few weeks and then go in for another xray to make sure My vertebrate isn't cracked! but all in all! everything Is amazing! We will be having a baptism on May 15th, 22, and 29th! Kyle and Stevie Gerratt should be here for that on on the 29th! :) found that out after meeting with Alissa, the one being baptized, today.
The mission president is way cool!! :) very involved in what we do and how we feel! we've had many interviews as he likes to talk with us about every 3-6 weeks! :) lots of fun!

MOM
As for the call on mothers day!
It is looking like it will be at about 4-5 p.m. ish my time we don't get out of church til 3:30-4 depending if we have other meetings! I will probably be calling you via VCO Sorenson meaning I will voice and the interpreter will sign what you are saying if not Elder Kane will interpret for me and it will be on a normal phone!

Everything is great here in Tucson! what do you mean by the Immigration bill? haven't heard about it! any how! got to go! :)
Lots of Love
Elder Karlson :)

26 April 2010

Well been a crazy week this week! lots of Dr. appointments and such! getting straightened out and ready to get back to work!
I went to the dr. on wednesday or thursday, and they said I have a wedged vertebrate with a possible crack in it but all is well! I'm doing my best to stay busy!
This week we found 2 new very solid investigators! Jen meeks was the first one. she has been slammed with a lot of anti church material, and negative
comments from her friends and relatives but has learned to put it all aside and is doing quite well! The next is Gussy. Gussy is an older lady who grew up in the
catholic church but felt as if something was missing. She is really wanting to know and praying and reading a lot! she is pretty awesome!! having lots of fun! about 3 days ago we met with her, we were teaching the first lesson about the restoration and we asked her how she felt about it, she said this may sound funny but I felt peace and I felt as though I miss my heavenly father, but I know I have never been face to face with him before but I feel as if I know him.
We then explained to her how she had seen him and today we are going to teach the plan of salvation and give her more information about that! she called yesterday and said she had a few questions so hopefully all is well! :)
I'm loving it even if it is 101 today! and it is only April!! they said it normally doesn't get this hot til about mid May! ooh well! all is well! I'm having a blast! hope all is well!! :) Lots of Love to all of you! Hope to hear from you soon!

on the road again. as you can see the keyboard is dumb again.
i can't capitalize anything or punctuate anything. any way this week was great.
in trc my companion elder bohman and i got to teach our teachers boss. she has been having a real hard time.
her husband is inactive. they had a kid before being married so his sister took him and raised him. 2 weeks ago the kid that was raised by the sister was killed by his son the one that she had raised. her job had been real busy and her son has asbergers syndrome which is like autism. she was worried about all sorts of things. we gave her the message of the atone ment and how to get her husband to come back, but it would take some serious work on both there parts. they have the determination to do now just hope they will. se was a great lady and was very interesting and patient with elder bohman. he is learning but is a bit slower. it is great to be here.

as for travel plans, i leave on monday march 15th at 6 am in the morning from the mtc. mom you should get a call about 7:15-7:30 am just right after i get through security hope everyone can be there. our plane takes off at 10:00 and the flight is all but 50 mins long. elder bohman and i will be flying together. life is great. hope all is well.

love you all

HEY Ya'll!
The mission is great!! really busy! we have our first baptism scheduled for April 10th and 7 others in the following weeks! we are so busy as you might be able to tell!! nobody has been getting much of a letter lately! just the weekly one!! We are so busy here it is super crazy!
Well as you may know, I'm in El Paso. I swear the Military Capital of the world! this town revolves around the military! I am serving in the El Paso 1st ward! Hey mom you might know a few people here!! "Moose" Mahoney said to say hello!!! He is in our ward! any way! we are so busy here we go from sun up to sun down and often times even longer!! Most often no lunch or if we do it is real short! There is really no new address! everything is sent to the mission office and then they forward the mail to us. It helps to save on transfers if for some reason we do get transferred! but that isn't looking very likely!! Elder Kane and I are way busy! it's pretty freakin awesome!! He's from Ogden but his family lives in Riverton now! He's way cool!! As for the town, 1. it's getting warm now! about 80 this week, 2. everything is brown, 3. ooh we did see some green grass the other day! it is called TURF!! ha well most of the lawns are weeds. NO GRASS!! the roads are crazy! but way fun! the wind blows all the time! just like home, and Lots of Palm trees and Mexicans! not being racist or anything it's just they come back and forth for work everyday so we see lots of them! as you probably know we have been put on High alert! we must stay 3 miles from the border. but other than that all is well! we are being protected in more ways than one! Well I hope that answered your questions!! Hope all is well!!
Lots of Love,

15 March 2010

Dad,

THis week has been Crazy Awesome! Been even busier than last week! It's been crazy! I finally get a down day on Saturday to pack and rest before the plane on Monday! :)

It is great to hear everything is doing well at home!

You kicked off Duty to God Camp that's so awesome! Make sure they get the commitment to read the Book of Mormon even if they are reading it for seminary! Then check up on progress! President Monson in 2004 World wide Leadership Broadcast said:
~"when we deal in GENERALITIES, we will rarely have success. When we deal in SPECIFICS, we will rarely have failure. When performance is measured, performance improves. When performance is measured and reported, the rate of improvement accelerates!

It is true! we see it here and in the lives of the investigators that we teach! This week is amazing if you just take the time to do it, and DO IT RIGHT!

This week we had the opportunity (Elder Bohman and I) to bless the lives of 3 sisters! 2 of which have left for the mission field, and one who is now Elder Bohman and I's companion until Monday! 19 years ago, she at the age of 6 found her mother in the bathtub dead, from a seizure! She was having flashbacks of that day! Immediately when she had the blessing her mind was cleared and hasn't had any problems since! It has been an amazing experience thus far and will continue to be! I can't wait to get to Arizona in less than 3 days Now :)! It's great to hear the dinner show is over! How did it go? I bet you were way busy with it! When is it you go to Seattle again? I can't remember!

It is great to see the snow is still falling it keeps falling here too! It's so cold! Can't wait to get to the warmth, But not looking forward to the HOT, HOT weather!

I was extended here at the MTC for one week, But they wouldn't say why! They just said the mission president called and said to stay 1 more week so we did so! How was ISDB? Hope it was good!

Dad,

Hey! This week has been freakin' awesome! Lots of snow and rain, but for the most part beautiful!

I was studying for district meeting, cause I had a 90 minute lesson to give and came across a few talks I thought you might like!

- Strengthen Thy Brethren-Elder Arnold
-Aaronic Priesthood Pathways-Thomas S. Monson
-Purpose for a mission- Lavell Edwards

The overall theme was getting less active (la) members back and staying in the church. They told us that is one of our 2 main goals as missionaries. Get the la back, and baptize new "CONVERTS".

Been studying real hard!!!! ONLY 2 WEEKS LEFT AT THE MTC!!!!!YEE HAW!!!!This food is getting really boring!!!! Anyway! So looking forward to the mission field! I met my trainers brother Last night!!I'm so excited!!!!! :) Hope all is well!!

Love ya!

Dad,

This week's been crazy! Busy too! Time is flying so fast! I can't believe I've Been here for 6 weeks! It feels as If I've been here for only a few days! Crazy! Love it her though! Arizona keeps getting closer and closer :)! The district has come so far this week it's crazy! We had district inventory on Monday and ever since it's gone quite well. Also we have cracked down on the rules. It's been a great week! Been real busy as if I wasn't before, but now I am busy with DL stuff if not I am a backup interpreter for devotionals or group meetings, it's great! Learning so much and Improving so fast!!It's Great! Well gotta go!!Haircut Day!! Lot's of Love, Elder Karlson

Hey Mom,

Great to hear from you! It's kinda weird to get a letter on Monday and Know I can't write back until Thursday. Then to write the 5 or 6 letters all in one day; it's pretty crazy!!
The MTC is awesome! It's been crazy busy here! There is hardly a down moment in this place, and for sure now there isn't any down time! I've been working real hard! Learning Lots!! And I mean Lots! And now on top of learning lots I get to solve others problems, Which I guess is ok but it's been a learning experience for the first week as DL. As for my companion, he is doing pretty well! He is a bit homesick, but we are working to keep it up and him busy! The spirits are high week 6 in our midst! It's gonna be great! The District support here is phenominal. Buoying each other up it's been a great experience. How did the Blue and Gold go? If only our ward would see how important the scouting program is to helping prepare a missionary, especially NYLT! Yes Camp Bradley, and the other campouts were good but to be able to use the principles from Woodbadge and NYLT to take hold and lead a group is really what has helped the most! Ooh Boy, The Bel Cantos Dinner! I'm glad it's you and not me! But It'll be great! Don't go overboard! Ooh quilts! ha Lucky you! Are you still making quilts for the seniors this year or something different? So for the 4 day weekend you went to SLC wow!Shouldn't it have been a yard cleanup day? The weather has been in the 45-50 degree range here for the last week except for today! It's SNOWING Huh! But most of all it sounds like an endurance test!!Ha Slc with Grandma Betty and the Girls sounds like fun! Tell Grandpa Yost and Grandpa Larry Hello! Saw Scott (yosty)today! Holy Cow he said hello before I even got to him! He's come out of his shell alot! and spanish is coming along pretty well for him! It's pretty awesome. Do Lynn & Lorraine come to provo? or another MTC? Also I gotta take some more pictures in order to send them to you! I shall work on doing that! How's everything going? Hope all is well!

Hey this week was pretty amazing!! Thanks for all the letters!!! :) it really brightens up my day! anyway about the events of the week!! this week was pretty much like those of the past but two specific events that really stuck out was 1, TRC which is like an investigator teaching practice!! well it wasn't so much practice for us this week! we had real less active members and an investigator come in this week to be taught! we taught of the Restoration, and Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon! It was great! The second of the experiences was the opportunity to help in giving a blessing! My companion, Elder Bohman, Elder Moore and I were asked again by Sister Roberts to give her a blessing! She is having a difficult time here, many things from her past life and she also has 4 small fractures in the heels of her feet! so it makes life even worse, but we went and gave her the blessing Sunday Evening after walking to the temple and having the afternoon to spend there. The spirit was so strong! it was amazing to see the effect we could have in blessing her life!! This work is Great!! Hope all is well!!!! Lots of love to you All !!!

Subject: Ha the letter for the Week!!!! 1/28/2010

This week was great!! It all started out on Friday when I was given the opportunity to give a blessing to one of the deaf sisters that had bronchitis and couldn't breathe real well!! it was a great learning experience for me! She is better now!! As for the rest of the week we are preparing again to teach the lesson of the restoration again at the TRC. This week I have a new set of companions to teach with! they are just temporary so we can learn different teaching styles and preferences while the rest of the Elders are still learning ASL. Those that are still learning ASL will teach in English for the Next 3 weeks, then I will be able to teach with my full time companion Elder Bohman. Anyway! This week I get to teach again with Elder Mully, But also with Elder Daniel. We have been practicing quite extensively for tomorrows lesson! It is gonna be great! We are specifically working on teach as simple as possible the doctrine! it is pretty difficult but it is great!!! Also this week i bought new scriptures! we get them almost 1/2 price here! so when you see money from my bank account dissappear you know where it went!! :) anyway!! Lots of Love! All is well here!!! God Bless!! James 1:5

Love,
Elder Karlson

Hello from the MTC! it is start of week three here! Thanks for all the letters and the Cookies mom!! :) they were great!!! I got one of them and then they disappeared!!! (Room mates) Also thanks for the package today i got in the mail! I had to hide it to ensure I got some of it before it was gone!!! As for the departure date it is the 16th as of now, just depending on when the Mission president is in need of me! Me and My companion Elder Bohman are both going together to Arizona! so when he calls we will be going! As for people I have seen that I know! ha 6 people! Scott Yost, Kace Redder, Ed Christenson, Kari Merrill, Nicole Graham, and Jordan Majors! Thanks for the Air freshener it is a big help already!!! yes if you can please send a Light pot freshener! it seems to last longer than the normal fresheners!
As for who you can give the Email address to, in the White handbook it says:"You may communicate with your family and mission president by e-mail." So that is to your discression. My teacher said that Grandparents are included, but the handbook doesn't say either way!

Dad,

Things this week are great! On wednesday we gave a blessing to a kid having a rough time learning english and the lessons! He only speaks ASL NOT english! On thursday he taught 2 of the 7 principles perfect in english!!It was amazing! Also i got to give a blessing to a sick deaf sister on Friday! She had bronchitis or however you spell it, and today it was all gone!! It was amazing! Tomorrow is church. The first day we came the Apostle Jeffery R. Holland came and talked to us in opening. It was great! As of now i will be here in the MTC until March 10th, then whenever transfers are i will leave! My teachers said something like the 16th or 18th i'm not sure! The lost elder, "Elder Mully" came like 10 minutes later! His name is so long we call him "Mully". In our district there are 15 elders and sisters. They are from all over! California, Utah, Idaho, Florida, New York, Oregon, Washington, and Missouri. There are 7 of us that are real strong with the language and the other 8 have little or no grasp of the language! Our District Leader is fromn Riverton, Utah. We all guessed who would be DL and he was on the bottom of the list, it was real interesting. Language learning is going really well! the typical day of the MTC goes as follows:
7-7:30 MDT (missionary directed time) study time (personal and companion), and language
7:30-8 Breakfast
8-12 MDT
12-12:45 Lunch
12:45-5:30 class- PMG (preach my gospel, language, and vocab challenges, lesson learning, gym, lesson practice
5:30-6:15 dinner
6:15-9:30 Class
9-9:30 planning
10:30 lights out!
Ha being a missionary is great! It is amazing being with people with the same goals and desires! This place is huge and with over 2000 missionaries here it is great! Tonight is fireside! It's gonna be great!
Winterball sounds like a blast! Hope you had fun!
Lots of love! Write you on thursday check your email at about 2:15-3:30 I have like half hour email time during that time!

January 21, 2010

Hey,
This place is great! the MTC is awesome!! The experiences here are phenominal!! Yesterday was espically great!! In my District we have 15 Elders and Sisters all together! 6 deaf elders including me, and 1 deaf sister, the rest are hearing and are all learning very fast the language! Many of them came with no knowledge of the Language or very minimal but in the last week they have learned to pray and the testify! I realized my sign language was more english based than actual ASL! I have been working on changing it! My companion, Elder Bohman, is pretty cool! he is from Florida! but all in all the experience is magnificent!! Last night we had the opportunity to begin preparing for the TRC where we teach investigators. Elder Mully (not his real name but no one can pronounce it and he can't speak) and I are companions for the first teaching experience! he is very Strict ASL, it is so good for me! I am learning So much! But anyway on to the story about last night and our teaching experience. we were teaching the restoration all 5 of us deaf elders to each other, getting the different perspectives on what they thought of the restoration! we were playing investigator and missionary when one elder was recieveing feedback we were kinda giving it all to him and it got quiet, Elder Daniel and I at the same time looked at each other because we were prompted to see that Elder Melkonian got a Blessing. It was an amazing experience that will never be forgotten! The Church is true! Hope all is well!!!
Love you all!!!
